Where is the beginning of any story? This essay really rang true for me. I hadn't given this much thought. However, the concept is simple, yet profoundly true and useful.

When I very young, I kid on my block, David, came over to my house and started to beat on me (literally) in the front yard. I was surprised and offended. Turns out that he was trying to get me back for something I had done to him. While he was wrestling me to the ground, I tried to explain to him that I had only been getting him back for something he had done to me...but, that didn't seem to matter to him. Our stories started at two different points! I think arguments between adults work pretty much the same way.
